A little news from the garden

Quite a bit has happened since I last reported from my little garden! I've been battling the dogs, who seem to enjoy running through my plants, and my own forgetfulness (I often realize almost too late that its "time to water")

So far the big producers are my cabbage plants, who are just now in the beginning stages of creating nice cabbage "heads". Until then, I have been and will continue to harvest and use the pretty, dark green outer leaves.

(That's also some fennel fronds as well as some thyme, also from the garden!)

I've really enjoyed heading out my back door to harvest what will become part of dinner! I've made dishes such as stir fry with cabbage

And cabbage rolls (I used quinoa instead of rice for a twist!)

I love the deep, bright green color of this cabbage, even when it's cooked. I get the sense that I'm eating really healthy when I see that!

Soon to be on my table, hopefully, are grape tomatoes and either yellow or red bell peppers... Yes, I did forget which color I planted, ha ha! Right now I have blooms and one lone little green tomato. Go little tomato, go!

So what does weekday morning traffic have to do with art....?

If you've ever wandered over to my other website and caught a glimpse of my little blog I have there, you might have seen my post a little over a month ago about how I had just been inspired to begin a new piece.

Weeks have passed since I began work on the piece, and I'm happy to say that I have finally finished!

You can see the detail more clearly here:

This abstract landscape began with a glance out of a car window, then continued its journey as first a drawing in stark black and white, and finally was given bold strokes of color.

As of right now this mixed-media abstract artwork has earned the name "View 59-1960", because inspiration does not always mean a creative title.

Is it too early for a swim?

I'm sure quite a few of you will answer a resounding "yes!", but the folks at Illustration Friday have other ideas.

This week's theme is "swim", and I've decided to join in with a digital piece I've titled "Lunar Swim".

I encourage you to head over to the Illustration Friday site to check out other artists' contributions!

And while we're daydreaming about water, sun, and paradise, here are some more finds, including one of my original canvas paintings!

I love the colors in this water-themed ACEO by Gatinela, who, incidentally, also makes super cute accessories for cats!

This abstract painting by Christine Bruness of TheBlueHours has such motion!

And last not least is this awesome cuttlefish plushie from WeirdBugLady (who, incidentally is the really cool kind of weird).

I hope you've enjoyed this quick little trip into summer! I'd love to hear about what makes you think of summer and warm happy thoughts!

Rite of Spring

Spring is almost here. In fact, here in southeast Texas we can pretty much say that spring is around the corner by the end of January. This year I'm welcoming the season by planting new things in my garden - strawberries, cabbage, and spinach (and a replacement rosemary plant for the one that died) and working on some pieces that will feature the colors of spring.

I wanted to showcase the soft shades of green and aqua, as well as the colors of the warm sun and budding flowers. They are both in acrylics - the first painting is on an artists panel measuring 6" x 8", and the second is on a 1 1/2" deep canvas measuring (I believe) 12" x 24". Neither piece is titled yet.

I'll also work on producing some ACEOs to showcase spring themes. I may follow the trend of the two paintings and create simple, abstract pieces, or I may decide to produce more detailed works such as this one, Titled "Among All the Commotion":

So, with new art ideas, along with projects around the house, lots of thorough cleaning, not to mention my full time day job, I've really got work to do!

What plans have you got for spring?
